The anticipation of a trip gives you something fun to look forward to but figuring out exactly what to bring can be challenging. After all, you only have so much room in your suitcase. The following eight packing tips will ensure that you pack for your trip stress-free.
Make a List of Essentials
There are certain items you bring on every trip no matter where you are going. Face moisturizer and cleanser, brush, toothbrush and toothpaste, medicine, sunscreen, body lotion, etc. Make a list of these items, print it out and keep it in your suitcase. When you go to pack for a trip, all those essentials are already on your list and won’t be left behind.
Make a Don’t Forget Pile
So, you have your list of essentials but what about the specifics? When you remember something else you want to bring, throw it into a pile or into the empty suitcase. This will ensure you don’t forget anything, both on the list, and not on the list.
Use Packing Cubes
If you aren’t already using packing cubes start now! Not only do they create more room in your suitcase, but they also keep it organized. You can easily group all like items together, so you know exactly where to find them. For example, all of your shirts can go in one cube. And, they’ll be wrinkle-free when you take them out of the cube. They come in a variety of sizes for all of your packing needs.
Invest in Lightweight Luggage
Overweight baggage fees are pretty steep. The best way to avoid them is by using lightweight luggage. Older luggage that is still in good shape might be tempting to use, but it weighs so much more than luggage that has come out in the last few years. Luggage that is expandable and has 4-wheel spinners is usually a good choice.
Weigh Before You Go
Airlines are strict with how much your luggage can weigh. If you are dealing with a stuffed to the gills suitcase, weigh it before you leave to make sure you are within the weight requirement for the airline you are flying on. This will prevent you from having to take items out and stuff them in your carryon at the airport. Similarly, if you are bringing a carry-on suitcase, make sure the dimensions are within the airline’s guidelines.
Pack an Extra
Pack an extra outfit and pair of underwear because you never know when you might be delayed and end up spending an extra night. Clothes can get wrecked while traveling so it is always a good idea to have an additional clean option. A dress can be dressed up or down.
Don’t Pack Your Chargers in Your Suitcase
If your checked suitcase doesn’t make it, and you do, you’ll have no way to charge your electronics, specifically your phone. Always put your phone charger in your purse or carry-on so that you have it with you. The same goes for prescription medicine and travel documents.
Pack a Snack
If you haven’t already had the pleasure of being stuck on a runway or a deserted airport with no open food service for hours, it may happen at some point. Or, the plane might run out of food. Always have a bag of nuts, protein bar, or another portable snack in your handbag.
These travel hacks will help make your trip (and packing for it) a lot more enjoyable.
