8 Best New Year’s Eve Parties Around the World

If you’ve spent the last few New Year’s Eve nights doing the same thing, maybe you are ready to do something really special to ring in 2020. These eight locations around the world celebrate the New Year in style:

Edinburgh, Scotland:   You might not associate Scotland with New Year’s Eve, but don’t miss The Balmoral Hotel’s Hogmanay Gala Ball.  The night begins with a bagpipe and drum performance, followed by a champagne reception and dinner.  The evening caps off with dancing and a firework display with Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop.

New York City:  Seeing that ball drop in Times Square is quintessential NYE.  For an extra luxe experience, book a room at The Peninsula and enjoy their black-tie gala complete with live music and dancing.  Make sure you bundle up, though, because it will be cold.

San Diego:  If you are looking for a slightly more relaxed New Year’s Eve, check out the Hotel del Coronado’s black and white gala, the Bal Masque.  The hotel’s ballroom is transformed for the night and serves a five-course meal.  Or, sail the night away on a luxury yacht catered with food and entertainment.

Dubai:  Like most things in Dubai, New Year’s Eve is totally over the top.  The holiday features party after party, fireworks, and dancing until the early hours of the morning.  Amazing pyrotechnic shows at Burj Khalifa are not to be missed, nor is the water-music show at The Dubai Fountain at midnight.  In order to guarantee a good seat, book a reservation at one of the restaurants that line the waterfront.  Or you can reserve at the Taj Dubai’s Treehouse party which includes a seafood bar, DJ, and a rooftop view of the light show over Burj Khalifa.

Chicago:  Ring in the New Year in the Windy City—there’s plenty to do!  Enjoy a night of food, drinks, and music before ending with the fireworks show over Lake Michigan.  If fancy is more your style, the place to be is the Resolution Gala at the Aon Grand Ballroom.   The panoramic windows offer a stunning view of the skyline, and the Navy Pier fireworks of course.

Rio:  Party it up Brazilian-style in Rio de Janeiro.  The city really goes all out for the start of the New Year.  Make sure to pack something white, as many will be dressed in this color to start 2020.  Relax on the infamous Copacabana Beach with musicians paying samba on their guitars all night.  The city’s impressive fireworks display lasts almost 30 minutes.   Afterwards, join in the local tradition of going down to the ocean to make an offering to Iemanjá, the Goddess of the sea.

Miami:  For a beachy New Year’s Eve, South Beach is the place to be.  Ocean Drive, the main drag, is closed to traffic so people spill onto the streets to celebrate.  One side of Ocean Drive, restaurants, bars and bands line the street.  Stay for the fireworks at midnight, and then hit one of the many parties the city is known for.  Make sure you pack some fun clothes for the warm South Beach weather!

Hong Kong:  Want to be the first to ring in the New Year?  It’s a long trip, but you’ll be celebrating before anyone back in the States.  Join one of the street parties along the Avenue of the Stars.  With amazing views of Victoria Harbor and the fireworks, Aqua Restaurant provides a quieter scene.
